The student is trained to independently design and calculate structures. A lot of attention is paid to the development of constructive insight throughout the course.
The program comprises two equivalent courses: Steel Engineer MSEng and Concrete Engineer MSEng. In terms of course design and curriculum, the courses are structured the same way. This offers the important advantage that the supportive subjects (applied mechanics, dynamics, mathematics, foundation engineering) are the same for both courses. Students who, after completion of one course, wish to take the other as well, can save nearly an entire year.
An important aspect of the course is the graduation project, for which students must design, calculate, and detail a structure. The graduation project must be defended before the Examination Board. After passing the exams, graduates will hold the title Master of Structural Engineering (MSEng).
Completion of the course provides 160 Knowledge Units for the Engineers’ Register.
Classes start on 6 September 2016 and take place weekly on Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
2 years for students with a completed HTI (Higher Technical Institute) education.
After passing the exams, the student will receive the Steel Engineer MSEng degree.
The graduation project consists of designing, calculating, and detailing a steel structure, and defending it before the Examination Board.
The course is open for structural engineers with a higher vocational education degree in structural, civil, or mechanical engineering with a constructive graduation project, and for graduates from the Steel Engineer BSEng course. Furthermore, a number of years of relevant work experience is recommended. Students with a completed HTI education can start in the second year. Students must be currently active in the profession. Please submit a copy of the relevant certifications when signing up.

The course is held at Maartvlinder 1 in Utrecht. Classes start on 6 September 2016 and take place weekly on Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The course is organized by Bouwen met Staal in cooperation with the Concrete Association, the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, The Hague University of Applied Sciences Postgraduate Foundation, the AVANS University of Applied Sciences (Den Bosch), and the Delft University of Technology.

1st year (2016-2017): For member companies, the course costs € 4,385 plus VAT. The price includes lecture notes but does not include text books. The regular price is € 5,155 plus VAT.

Separate graduation project: For member companies, the graduation project costs € 2,192 plus VAT. The regular price is € 2,375 plus VAT.
